A lit close-up inspection camera for iPhone
J-Camera is an inspection tool rather than a general-purpose camera. It is built for looking closely at small things — a solder joint, a scratch, a serial number, a fabric weave — with the torch on and precise control over focus.
Tap Split to place a circle in the centre of the frame. Inside the circle the live image is run through an edge-enhancement formula and shown as four quadrants at four different strengths, so you can see which one reveals detail in the current lighting.
Stats is the master switch for the on-screen readouts. With it on, a logarithmic frequency histogram appears at the top right — when the right-hand side stays high, fine detail is still present, which means you are in focus.
Portrait mode uses the dual-camera system to measure depth and simulate a shallow depth of field. Two windows appear on the left: the depth map (warm = near, cool = far) and the blur mask actually being applied (white = blurred, black = sharp).
Each shot saves two photos: one with the original pixels and the depth map, which the Photos app can re-edit with its own aperture slider, and one with the blur already applied at the f-number you chose.
Portrait requires a device with more than one rear camera. On iPhone models with a single rear camera the button is greyed out.
Switch Focus from Auto to Manual to drive the lens by hand. On models with a LiDAR scanner, Calib records a few reference distances so the focus-distance readout can be converted into real units.
J-Camera is free. A full-screen advertisement appears occasionally after a photo is saved — never while you are framing or focusing. Ads are non-personalised; the app does not ask for tracking permission. See the Privacy Policy.
